LATSVSI Calls for Regional Unity to Dismantle Human Trafficking and Scam Networks in West Africa
“One Message. One Fight. Save Lives and the Future of Our Young Generation.”

Monrovia, Liberia – July 29, 2026 – The Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victims Support Initiative [LATSVSI] today issued a call for urgent regional collaboration to dismantle trafficking networks and protect vulnerable communities across West Africa.

With cross-border trafficking and scam-related crimes becoming increasingly sophisticated, LATSVSI is warning that no single country or organization can win this fight alone.

“In order to dismantle trafficking networks, we must unite in the fight against trafficking in persons and carry one message: saving lives and the future of our young generation,” said Zokerseh B. Saye, Executive Director of LATSVSI. “Traffickers operate without borders. Our response must also be without borders.”

A Growing Regional Threat
Recent cases coordinated by LATSVSI in partnership with the Government of Liberia have revealed how victims are lured across ECOWAS states through false job offers, fraudulent migration schemes, and online scams. Many victims are young people seeking economic opportunity, only to find exploitation, abuse, and detention.

LATSVSI has supported the rescue and voluntary repatriation of victims, assisted with family reunification, and worked with law enforcement, civil society, and community leaders to strengthen prevention and protection efforts nationwide.

A Call to Action
LATSVSI is calling on:
Governments in the region to strengthen intelligence sharing, joint investigations, and victim-centered repatriation protocols
Law enforcement and immigration agencies to prioritize the identification and prosecution of trafficking kingpins
Civil society, faith leaders, and media to amplify prevention messages and challenge the false narratives used by traffickers
International partners to provide technical and financial support for victim protection, data collection, and public awareness campaigns

“Every young person lost to trafficking is a future lost to our region,” Mr. Saye added. “The Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victims Support Initiative is calling on everyone — government, partners, communities, and citizens — to join us in this fight and save the region.”
