Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victim Support Initiative Appeals for Assistance to Repatriate Stranded Sierra Leonean Trafficking Victims
Monrovia, Liberia – July 9, 2026 — The Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victim Support Initiative (LATSVSI) has renewed its commitment to combating human trafficking, irregular migration, and transnational scam-related activities across Africa while calling for urgent humanitarian support for hundreds of stranded trafficking victims.
During recent interventions, the Initiative identified a significant number of Sierra Leonean nationals who were deceived by traffickers and fraudsters with false promises of document processing and migration opportunities to Canada, Australia, and several European countries. Instead of the opportunities they were promised, many became victims of human trafficking and related scams.

Hundreds of these individuals are currently stranded in Liberia, facing difficult living conditions and requiring urgent humanitarian assistance and safe repatriation.

The Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victim Support Initiative is appealing to the Government of Liberia, the Government of Sierra Leone, international organizations, humanitarian partners, civil society organizations, and well-meaning individuals to support efforts to provide emergency assistance and facilitate the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of these victims to their families and communities.

“The fight against human trafficking requires collective action and regional cooperation. We remain steadfast in our mission to protect vulnerable persons, support victims, raise public awareness, and work with national and international partners to dismantle trafficking and scam networks operating across the continent,” the Initiative stated.

The Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victim Support Initiative remains dedicated to supporting victims, promoting safe and regular migration, and strengthening efforts to prevent human trafficking and related crimes throughout Africa.
