Liberia Anti-Trafficking Initiative Calls for Strengthened Global Support to Rescue and Reintegrate Victims
Monrovia, Liberia — July 1, 2026
The Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victim Support Initiatives is urgently calling on governments, international organizations, and well-meaning individuals to enhance support for ongoing efforts to assist Liberian victims of human trafficking and online scams stranded across parts of Africa and beyond.
The institution reports that it has successfully facilitated the return of over forty Liberian victims from exploitative and dangerous situations abroad. Despite these achievements, the organization continues to receive distress calls from affected citizens located in countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia, among others.
According to the initiative, many of the victims remain trapped in vulnerable conditions, often as a result of false promises of employment and better economic opportunities. The organization warns that rising levels of economic migration pressures among young people in Liberia are significantly contributing to the growing risk of exploitation.
The Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victim Support Initiatives is therefore appealing for increased international collaboration, logistical support, and funding to strengthen rescue operations, rehabilitation services, and reintegration programs for returnees.
In addition, the organization is urging stronger investment in nationwide awareness campaigns to help citizens make informed decisions and better understand the risks associated with irregular migration and fraudulent job schemes.
The institution emphasizes that preventing trafficking begins with education and awareness, and calls on all stakeholders to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable young people from exploitation.
