MONROVIA, LIBERIA — The Executive Director of the Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victims Support Initiative [LATSVSI], Zokerseh B. Saye, has called on the Government of Liberia, ECOWAS, international organizations, development partners and well-meaning individuals to take urgent action to address the growing challenges of human trafficking, irregular migration and scam-related activities affecting Liberians and other African nationals across the region.
Speaking on LOVE FM 105.1, on Thursday during an interview hosted by John Kesseh, Mr. Saye highlighted the plight of thousands of Liberians who, according to the organization, have become stranded in different parts of Africa after falling victim to trafficking networks, fraudulent migration schemes and other scam-related activities.
Mr. Saye said many of those affected are struggling to return home and called on the Government of Liberia to strengthen efforts to identify, assist and facilitate the safe return of vulnerable Liberian citizens stranded abroad.
He also appealed to ECOWAS, development partners, international humanitarian organizations and other stakeholders to support coordinated interventions aimed at protecting vulnerable migrants, combating trafficking and preventing young people from falling victim to fraudulent migration and scam networks.
According to Mr. Saye, increased public awareness remains one of the most effective tools for preventing human trafficking, irregular migration and related exploitation. However, he said LATSVSI currently lacks the financial and logistical capacity needed to expand its awareness campaigns beyond Montserrado and into other counties and countries across the region.
“We need greater support to expand our awareness and prevention activities because many vulnerable people remain exposed to trafficking, irregular migration and scams,” Mr. Saye said.
He urged the Government of Liberia and its international partners to provide funding and logistical assistance to enable the organization to broaden its outreach, particularly among young people and communities considered vulnerable to trafficking and deceptive migration schemes.
The Executive Director stressed that greater investment in prevention, public education and victim support could help protect vulnerable Liberians and reduce the risks associated with irregular migration and trafficking.
Mr. Saye further called for stronger regional and international cooperation, noting that trafficking and migration-related scams often cross national borders and therefore require coordinated responses among governments, regional institutions, civil society organizations and international partners.
LATSVSI says it remains committed to raising awareness and supporting vulnerable individuals but needs additional resources to significantly scale up its operations.
The organization is therefore appealing for financial, technical and logistical support from the Government of Liberia, ECOWAS, development partners, international organizations, civil society groups and concerned individuals to strengthen its prevention and awareness efforts and help safeguard the future of vulnerable Liberians and other at-risk populations across the region.
