LIBERIA ANTI-TRAFFICKING AND SCAM VICTIM SUPPORT INITIATIVE CALLS FOR GREATER PREVENTION AND PUBLIC AWARENESS
MONROVIA, LIBERIA — August 30,2026 — The Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victims Support Initiative [LATSVSI] is urging parents, heads of households, young people, and all Liberians to exercise extreme caution when responding to employment, travel, migration, and other opportunities advertised online.
LATSVSI warns that human trafficking, online scams, and related forms of exploitation are increasingly placing young Liberians at serious risk, with devastating consequences for individuals, families, and communities.
The organization is calling on the Liberian Government and relevant authorities to place greater emphasis on prevention, public education, and early intervention as part of national efforts to protect young people from trafficking, exploitation, abuse, and fraudulent recruitment schemes.
RISING RISK FOR YOUTH
According to LATSVSI, many young people are being lured by false promises of legitimate employment, education, travel, and migration opportunities to destinations including Canada, Europe, Australia, and the United States.
In some cases, victims reportedly find themselves trapped in situations of exploitation, abuse, forced labor, or other forms of trafficking far from home and without adequate means of seeking help.
PREVENTION IS THE BEST PROTECTION
LATSVSI believes that public awareness is one of the most powerful tools for dismantling trafficking networks and preventing vulnerable individuals from becoming victims.
The organization is therefore calling for stronger community-based awareness campaigns, increased digital literacy, improved information-sharing, and greater public vigilance regarding suspicious online offers and recruitment activities.
“Our young people are the future leaders of Liberia, and we must do everything within our power to protect their lives, dignity, and future,” said Zokerseh B. Saye, Executive Director of LATSVSI.
The organization is encouraging families to engage openly with young people about the dangers associated with unverified online opportunities and to carefully investigate recruitment offers before allowing relatives to travel or provide personal documents, money, or other sensitive information to individuals or organizations whose legitimacy cannot be independently confirmed.
CALL FOR COLLABORATION
LATSVSI further calls on government institutions, civil society organizations, community leaders, law enforcement agencies, ECOWAS, and international partners to strengthen collaboration in preventing trafficking, identifying victims, supporting survivors, and holding perpetrators accountable.
The organization maintains that prevention must remain at the center of Liberia’s response to human trafficking and related exploitation. Protecting young Liberians today is an investment in the future of the country.
LATSVSI urges every Liberian: Verify before you trust, investigate before you travel, and seek help when an opportunity appears suspicious.
